“Grade school education is a re-living of the history of human evolution.”
In the journey of homeschooling my children, in their tenth year of life, we embarked on an exciting new chapter: a proper study of the Natural Sciences. Prior to this, we immersed ourselves in fables and myths, exploring captivating creation tales and delving into enchanting stories of prehistoric humans, coming to understand our natural world through the world of tales.
I like to refer to our entire grade school education as A JOURNEY THROUGH THE HISTORY OF HUMAN EVOLUTION.
Students' Works - Grade 3 (2022-23)
Starting from the very dawn of time, whether through the richness of our creation myths contemplating the beginning of this universe, the fascinating narratives of Prehistoric Man or the recorded history of the movement of tribes, wars, and technological advancements, history has been my guide in shaping the education of these young minds.
Through history, one can unravel and explore all subjects under the sun.

History serves as a bridge to all disciplines, offering a window into the vast expanse of human knowledge.
Students' Works - Grade 4 (2023-24)
For example, History opens the door to understanding the evolution of mathematics, tracing its development from the basic counting methods of ancient civilizations to the sophisticated principles of Euclid's Geometry or Al-Khwārizmī's Algebra. These were all shaped by the needs and challenges of the times, and thus, have become the foundational curriculum for each grade school year.
Students' Works - Grade 7 (2020-21)
As humanity has advanced, so too have the complexities we've uncovered through history. Similarly, as young learners grow and develop, their ability to navigate and understand the intricacies of our world expands. History serves as the thread that weaves together and breathes life into the otherwise abstract concepts of Science and Mathematics, making them relatable and tangible through inspiring stories of the birth of these concepts across different eras.
Through history, we embark on the study of Geography, unlocking the secrets of nature, seasons, and landscapes. It also ignites the spirit of exploration that, back in time, propelled man to venture into unknown lands, traverse vast oceans, and ultimately chart the maps of our world. Such engagement with history serves as a gateway to exploring subjects as diverse as Astronomy, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, and everything else that sparks curiosity.

Moreover, this approach to education, rooted in the historical context of human evolution, engages not only the curiosity and innate problem-solving capacities of the child but also fosters a therapeutic understanding of themselves and the world. It cultivates empathy, objectivity, and emotional intelligence, sowing the seeds for better human connections, understanding, and community living. By learning about the choices, challenges, and triumphs of humanity through time, children develop a nuanced perspective on their place in the world and the contributions they can make towards a more understanding and compassionate society.
By grounding every subject of exploration in History, we provide it with a compelling context that captivates the imagination and imbues it with meaning. By making the history of human evolution the focal point of grade school education, we can offer the evolving child an age-appropriate and meaningful learning experience that delves into subjects with unparalleled depth.
I hope to stay inspired and continue documenting my homeschooling journey, emphasizing how history breathes life into our lessons. These lessons extend beyond lifeless information, aiming for a transformative education for the child, as we journey through history, infusing life into every facet of learning.
