Greetings, fellow seekers of inspiration!
Today, let’s navigate the journey to a life that resonates with your deepest self. Join me as we explore the seven transformative stages that serve as your key to living a harmonious, self-inspired existence.
Stage 1: The Birth of Thoughts
Our story begins with the birth of thoughts — tiny messengers triggered by every moment of our life experience. These thoughts, a myriad of them and many contradicting ones too, live through us. Picture it: a cascade of thoughts, each with its own story, morphing into emotional forces, shaping the emotional landscape of our very being. Ever tried the sit-back-and-observe-your-thoughts meditation? Ensure you feel light-hearted and self-compassionate every time you do this meditation, allowing you to be open enough to observe any and every thought; even those that may be silly or nasty.
Stage 2: The Emotional Forces
Emotions — the living, breathing manifestation of our thoughts — sometimes play nice, while at other times, they present themselves as conflicting forces seeking attention. From joy to sorrow, our emotions fuel the physical expression and action that unfold through us.
As contradictory emotional forces coexist within us, they power our physical expression and action in the world.
Your body expression is the result of what you are feeling and what you are feeling is the result of what you are thinking.
If you are feeling conflicting emotions, it is because you are also harbouring conflicting thoughts. And that is totally natural!
“I can do this”, “I cannot do this”, can both co-exist and manifest as part confidence and part anxiousness within us. Love-hate relationships are a classic example too, whether with self or someone close or even with your job! Both love and hate are emotions welling up from plain simple thoughts — “I’ve known you for so long”, “ I can’t relate to you anymore”.
Think about it for a moment… have you ever seen yourself in this situation?
Stage 3: Body Language Speaks Your Truth
Your emotions can be the compass guiding you to become acutely aware of your physical expression. A slouched posture, a confident stance, a trembling hand — each movement tells a tale.
What is your body saying?
Is it shouting out loud a feeling of resignation in its slumped posture during difficult times?
Is it radiating effortless confidence in its straightened spine and full breath?
Is it an expression that is in-between, revealing a battle between contradicting emotions?
Feel courageous yet cowardly and at the same time? Feel excitement and fear simultaneously? And the classic — Feel like you want that special someone close and yet you clash?
Sense it all in the body.
Just like the idea of the sit-back-and-observe-your-thoughts meditation, sitting, standing, or lying down and observing and making a mental note of every sensation in your body can be an invaluable practice that’ll help curb the snowballing of unnecessary thoughts and emotions and bring you back to your centre, your core.
Stage 4: Aligning with the Core
When plain thinking about your life falls short, connect with your feelings and witness their presence in your physical expression.
Grounding in your physical presence enables you to disconnect from the cacophony of conditioned, externally influenced, and even contradictory thoughts for a moment. Listen to the voice that emerges from your core — bringing you a thought inspiration that resonates with who you are and what’s genuinely best for you in the moment. This alignment becomes the cornerstone for a self-inspired life.
My persistent yet effortless practice of checking in on bodily sensations from time to time was at first driven by the sheer amusement I found in it. And then I began to witness claiming back my power in challenging life situations by doing this. No more clashes! And a quick rebound from emotional lows is what I am experiencing. Ground in your body. Connect with your core intelligence.
Stage 5: Refueling Constructive Emotional States
Such an alignment, to the voice that emerges from your core, refuels constructive emotional states.
Simply put, all the emotions you are feeling, however intense or mild, always come from a thought trigger. We may not even be aware of the thought trigger that is sparking a particular emotion. But it is not those thought triggers we are after anyway. This is quite helpful. I don’t have to rummage through all the garbage to find the culprit(s) for my behavior. What we need is to access the self-inspired thought coming from the core. Grounding in the body can aid that.
A moment’s connection with this inspired thought can completely shift emotional states to the likes of resilience, joy, and determination.
They then become the fuel that propels you toward who you want to be in any given moment in life. Your positive emotional states are your only best friend, inspiring the physical expression and action that you truly want to unfold through you. You take back your power rather than feel helpless or carried with the currents.
Stage 6: Navigating Emotional Overflow
When emotions overflow, and you find yourself drowning in their intensity, focus on your body. Make a mental note of every sensation. And while slow deliberate breaths do wonders, if you can somehow withdraw from where you are into a more private space, you could try moving rhythmic, oscillating moves, like swaying or contracting and expanding, to bring yourself back to the groove, experiencing the emotions gently ebb and flow.
From here on, you simply stay connected to your body and therefore connect back again to your core intelligence, the voices that come to your aid.
Stage 7: Connected to Core Intelligence
Everything you’ve read so far is also but a thought. A thought that may have resonated with your core. A thought that may inspire moments of connectedness within you when you need it. Connecting with your emotions and your body expression is a transformative act — one that leads you to meet your core intelligence, a guiding force that ensures you live authentically and purposefully while shaping your destiny in each passing moment.
