What Is My Life Purpose: How To Find It

Quote: 'Your Purpose is not the end goal of your existence but your purposeful existence in every moment you exist.'
Life Purpose

You can achieve anything you want if you know the purpose you are coming FROM while on the path to achieving what you desire.

'The purpose I am coming FROM' can be a mind-blowing revelation if you can fathom it. It's not about 'finding a purpose' to set out on a different life path and the results it will bring. While the end result serves as a huge motivation, the deeper question is, what purpose am I coming from while engaging in the process of achieving this?

The Power of Purpose

Let’s take the example of wanting to land a new job. It could be for financial freedom and/or career growth. The result, landing the job, is a significant motivation driving my behavior to take necessary actions. The purpose behind these actions is to secure the job, which is understandable. Some find sufficient drive from the vision of the final result, while others may struggle to adhere to behaviors leading to the desired outcome. Even those diligently following a perfect plan may find themselves burnt out, questioning the happiness derived from their efforts.

Here is where knowing the purpose you are coming from while engaging in the process or behavior for achieving your goals shifts the way you approach those behaviors. Your actions become purposeful. You are not just motivated by external goals; you are intrinsically motivated, driven by a purposeful intent for engaging in the act or behavior at this moment, fostering personal growth and life transformation.

Purpose is as simple as you allow it to be. Think of purpose as an intention for an experience. What do you intend to experience, in this moment or in the larger context of life? Our need for an experience drives us to live and do anything in life. It is as simple as that. What do you intend to experience?

I have to mention here how much I love the 3 MIQs exercise by Vishen and how much I've revealed to myself through it!

Finding Your Life Purpose

Let’s use the example of landing a job.

Goal: To land a job.

Purpose I am coming from in the desire for the job: To experience financial, emotional, and intellectual growth, let’s say.

And what might that further allow you to experience? How does this purpose align with your life purpose?

“Financial growth enables me to satisfy my thirst and curiosity for exploring and venturing into things that thrill me.
Emotional growth enables me to experience a deep sense of belongingness, connectedness, and harmony.
Intellectual growth reveals to me more and more of this world and life itself and adds to the drive and thrill of my existence.“

Now, does that give you clarity on the purpose you are coming from in life itself?

“My purpose in life is to explore and venture into things that thrill me, to experience a deep sense of belongingness, connectedness, and harmony, and to keep having more revelations of the world and myself, to experience the thrill of my existence!”

Whoa!

Tuning into the purpose you are coming from while aspiring towards the goal of landing a job, you realize that the clarity your purpose brings extends beyond just the job; it illuminates your understanding of life and how you want to lead it, promoting personal growth and life transformation.

Embracing Your Life Purpose

Coming back to the present moment where you engage in actions or behaviors to achieve the job:

Micro Action: Let’s say, practicing speaking and expressing with a composed and collected self for a job interview.

Purpose I am coming from while engaging in this micro action: To witness and experience my own transformation, gaining confidence through clear articulation from a composed self.

Now I know how this purpose aligns with my larger purpose in the job as well as in life - Growth!

How does knowing my purpose change the way I engage in this micro action?

I watch my face in the mirror while I speak. I look into my own eyes. I sense the sensations in my body. I hear my own voice. I enjoy what’s working and make a note of what’s not working. Such fun! Aligning with my purpose brings me into presence.

Discover Your Purpose in Relationships to Self and Others

What if I am being judgmental and harsh on myself during this action? To counter that, ask yourself what is the purpose you are coming from in your relationship with yourself? Purpose can be as simple as that. Life can be as simple as that! I see purpose as a sphere of awareness. From tuning into the purpose while engaging in a small, simple act in the moment to becoming aware of the purpose for my existence (notice how I say ‘purpose for my existence’ and not ‘of my existence’ because purpose is not the end goal of your existence but your purposeful existence in every moment you exist).

What is my purpose in my relationship with my life partner? Love, Laughter, Adventure, Growth. So then, in my day-to-day engagement with my partner, in the conversations I have, in the tone of voice I use, in my energies, am I tuned into this purpose of love, laughter, adventure, and growth?

What is my purpose in my life? Intellectually, emotionally, physically, spiritually, aligning with your need for personal growth and self-actualization.

Staying Connected With Your Purpose

How can I see or connect to this purpose I am coming FROM into my existence, in every moment?

For this, you need a practice. First, you need time to yourself and the mental space. Time to center. Time to feel, sense, and know your true intentions. In order to give yourself this time, and not just one time, but from time to time, you need a practice - a space, time, location, and an encouraging environment that you have access to repeatedly at regular intervals, that aids in easier grounding, centering, and connection to yourself. Such a space can be self-sought, sought with a like-minded partner or peer, or sought in a coaching space with a like-minded coach!

Here’s to finding your purpose! Not because it is lost or you don’t have it, but because you may not have given yourself the chance to simply know it.
